www.rexburgstandardjournal.com
REXBURG -- Late Wednesday afternoon,
a home in Burton sustained serious
damage from a fire.
The call came in to the Rexburg-Madison
County Emergency Services shortly after
4 p.m. for a fire at the home at 2738 W.
3800 South.
The fire appeared to be centered in the attic area on the north end of the home.
As Madison County firefighters and deputies converged on the scene, two Jefferson County
deputies who noticed smoke coming from the home stopped to help, according to Madison
County Deputy Matt Lurker. They immediately started rescuing several dogs that were in the
house, he said.
Capt. Kent Summers said when the firefighters arrived, anyone inside had already left the
house.
He said when they got there, the roof had already burned through.
While the firefighters battled the blaze, some of them removed belongings from the home and
passed them off to people on the edge of the yard.
The belongings were place for safety in pickup trucks and neighboring homes.
Summers said there were at least 20 firefighters on the scene with equipment from both fire
stations in Madison County.
The firefighters were there for several hours to ensure the fire was completely out.
Summers said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
